Dragon Rampant- A Tale of Two Fords

A little palette after so much Fistful of Lead playtesting. We had a second generation Basement General visiting so I pulled out a game that's fun and easy to pick that isn't mine. We also changed the activation rules so a failed activation didn't end your turn completely.
A Choas-Orc-Goblin force had come down from the mountains to seize two fords on the river in order to launch a bigger invasion.
The Northmen called in a few favors from the Men of the West and the Warriors Four to help hold the line.

The Northmen with a friendly Giant
 Goblin Hordes
The Warriors Four
Attack!

 Beastmen take the bridge
Borax the Despoiler. Possibly the toughest "unit" on the table. Reduced to hiding in the woods. I don't think he drew blood for the Blood god all night. SHAME!
Gurd the Sturdy stands alone against the Beastmen
Hobgobs take the second ford. The Berserkers have already run off. What's conscripted farmer to do? Form Shieldwall!
 Men of the West! Attack!
Forces close early in the game
The goblin chariot and his Troll eye the vacant bridge
Charge! I reality these boys spent most of the game grazing.

 These guys too.
Two hours later. Forces almost destroyed. Each side held a bridge.
Alot of blood spilled. Alot of fun had.

Barbarian's Pass: Dragon Rampant

Nice little 5 player Dragon Rampant game. The unwashed masses of the Northern territories had to hold the line against a Goblinoid/Chaos horde. They did, and then some. The chaos thugs and their greenskin allies were sent packing.

Lug. He took out a unit of cavalry single handed, but was killed when he stopped to feast on said horse flesh.
Garn Gorespear. Terror made flesh. Only managed to run off some archers before falling to some heavy infantry.

Inner Redhand. Champion of the battle.
Last charge of the centaurs. They routed these guys, but were, like so many others, wiped out soon after in a counter attack.

Great game. Thanks to the folks who braved the weather, and shunned the home opener.

The Wizard's Tower: a Dragon Rampant game

Long have the greenskin hordes looked down from their mountains and coveted the riches of the denizens of the valley below. But always has their guardian, the wizard Valdamere protected them. Word has spread that the old wizard is dying. Now is the time for Garn Gorespear and minions to strike!
A few of the Duke's men scramble to intercept the horde.
News of the wizard's death have been greatly exaggerated.
A goblin chariot streaks across the field.

"Out of the way peasants! We're here to save the day!"
Gary looks for opponents, but finds only cabbages.
Let the burning and pillaging begin!

A few skirmishes fail to make their escape and are destroyed by orcs.
 "Slow your roll, foul beasts!"
 sooooo much pillaging.....
The Duke himself takes on a pair of ogres.
This turned out o be a great little 4 player game. On the small side for us. We usually play DR with each player getting 3 "Luck: tokens to preroll failed activations or poor attack/defense roll. Not this time.
The Duke's men could not get going until it was too late. I wrote this off as too much time getting lazy and fat in the valley.
We managed to decimate the Orc forces but not till after they burned most of the village. We had enough time left over to play Gorechosen, a great little gladiator game.

Dragon Rampant: The Heart of the Mountain

The Heart of the Mountain has been stolen by dark forces! The disparate tribes of the mountains have banded together to stop them.
 The quiet valley...
 The Northern Tribes unite!
Green kins and Chaos pour from the Mountain.
Chaos Centaurs ford the stream, only to be showered with boulders form  local guardian of the Mountain, a Stone Giant.

Bugbears made their debut and avoided the "Newly Painted" curse of all wargaming troops.
A troll takes on the lightest armed humans., and quickly routes them.

The final battle sees to giants collide.

This was a 4 player game of Dragon Rampant, and a particularly bloody one. We had some units break after taking just a few casualties, while others hung on to the last (we had one archer " Legolas" who just wouldn't give up until he was finally crushed by a boulder).
Usually, light troops and giant get destroyed early in our games. Not sure why, they just do. This time, they were the last to go.
DR always inspires me to get painting more troops.

The Creature Unleashed: A Dragon Rampant AAR

Last game of Dragon Rampant, the Dark Forces, led by Borax the Despoiler, had managed to open the Portal to the Outer Dark and let a Ancient Foe through. The forces of Good, have managed a last ditch effort to thwart the evil plans. With the right ritual, an ancient statue located on the coast, is capable of sending the creature back. The problem of course, is the ritual is known to but a few. This one is crazed hermit with a penchant for drink, and hatred of clothes.
The scenario: all forces but the hermit and the Warriors of Renown, start off board and must pass a Move test to enter. The hermit would move on a 7+ at the end of the good guys turn, towards the statue. Every player got 2 "Luck Stones" (re-rolls) to use during the game.
The battle took place on a 6x8' table. The Baddies at one end, while the good guys moved in from the sides.
The hermit (Zee Buck-Naked Baron) leaves the security of his tower.
The Warriors of Renown hold the center. Morgoth the Barbarian would prove to be source of disappointment. He had to constantly be healed by the Wizard Aeloroth.
The orcs were tardy as usual and got round when they did show up.
The Beastmen proved they could take a beating but rarely dish one out.
Poor Norsemen, led astray by promises of an Ancient Evil.
The Hill Giant was kept from throwing boulders by the Wizard casting Dragon's Breath. Poor, dumb lout.
Men of the West struggle to get a unified line.

 The Centaurs attack!
But it's too late. The Hermit pours the sacred potion of Pee-Bee-Arr on the altar and banishes the Ancient Foe back to the Outer Dark. The Forces of Evil must fight on alone.
Guy de Porco Blanc takes on Borax alone. They would trade blows til the sun went down and the Despoiler's troops retreated.
Great game. Good Fun.
