Samurai Swords

Been really busy at work lately, and was kinda too exhausted to put on a full tabletop game. So, I dug out an oldie but goodie, "Samurai Swords".
Originally released as "Shogun", I picked this up in 1986 and its still a great game. So good, I guess they are re-releasing as "Ikusa", but without the swords to pick order of play. That's one of the coolest parts!
There were 6 players last night, and only 5 spots, so I watched until it was time for the Boy to go to bed. Then I got stuck with his decimated army. The players finally caught on that this is a head hunting game. Take out the enemy Daimyos, and win the game. Armed with this info, the next game aught to be interesting.
On another note, I may not be running a game at RECRUITS this time. Just too much to do and too little time. Instead, I''ll probably assist Lead Addict with running his Fistful of Lead: Wasteland Warriors games.

I still have the 'Shogun' box set at home here, and I haven't played it in - oh I don't know how long. The game rocked, for mine. My favorite trick was to bid for the #5 sword in one move (usually a gimme) then bid big for the #1 sword next turn, effectively giving me two turns in a row.

No good unless you have in mind a really cunning plan, of course.
Cheers,
Ion

One of the intriguing things about the box art were the depictions of Japanese battles. When Zvezda came out with their great Samurai etc figures I was so tempted to get heaps of these dudes for just such a campaign.

So far I've resisted that temptation...
