A member of the 2nd (Von Chumley's) Cuirassiers in pursuit of some Franistover cavalry outside Ostvald.
I wanted to do some troops in 25-28mm and had some Old Glory laying around. It was fun to paint, but the figure is awful. The miniature doesn't fit on the horse well at all, missing pieces of sculpting (no stirrup sculpted on one boot, the scabbard is floating unattached to anything, etc,) didn't inspire me to do more than one. The picture isn't great either. I think I'll be picking up some Front Rank (when funds permit) to try again.
Might I suggest Crusador Miniatures, they make some nice figs and are quite affordable. Painting looks nice and Huzzah Zlobenia!!!! Looking forward to turn two were the Zlobenians will take the enemies undefended capital.
ReplyDeleteP.S. forgot, if you want to get rid of the rest of you old glory 28mm Curiassers let me know, they do not offend my senses quite as much.
ReplyDeleteThe Crusader figs are quite stunning, but unfortunately the wrong period. The Second War of Unkerlantian Succession starts in 1702 an thus firmly in WSSn period. A bit earlier and less "Lace-y". Uniforms of the period are less complicated than SYW.

RSM95 minis enjoy a fairly good press in the 'EvE' community.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, this one is *not* that bad, and it's good to see a 'large' trooper from Unkerlant!
The Wargame Factory is to issue, within their 'Liberty and Union League' (on the same principle as the Eureka100 'Club') a 'generic WSS infantry sprue'... someday.
ReplyDeleteGNW 1/72 plastics and a litle 'paint conversion'?
ReplyDelete10mm for the big battles and 28mm for skirmish for me.

I have quite a few old glory figures for this period and understand your observations. However, I think they look better when massed. Try a few more and see if they don't look better as a unit...
